Elephant Acupuncture

Arthritis is common among elephants in captivity. Cure is not likely so treatment is directed at pain management. NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) are often used but over time these drugs are often no longer effective. This is what motivated Dr. Mikota to become certified in veterinary acupuncture and to apply this knowledge to elephants. In the course of her study Dr. Mikota mapped the acupuncture meridians (energy channels) of the elephant. The Elephant Acupuncture Chart is available from the Chi Institute  .
